Communicating with Others
Adapting your style to connect better with others
About the Course
The key to communication is “Adaptability”. Researchers say that only 25% of the world thinks or acts like you. This is why “The Golden Rule” (treat others the way YOU like to be treated) is flawed. Better to go with “The Platinum Rule” (treat others the way THEY like to be treated – or communicated with).
This workshop provides some very useful tips for communicating more effectively with others.
“I don’t know what I said until you tell me what you heard.”
The Workshop
When you complete this workshop, you will be able to...
- Understand the Basic Communication Model: What really happens when someone talks, and someone hears what is being said?
- Identify 4 Personality Type Colors and explain how knowing these colors can help you communicate better with someone who has a different set of dominant colors.
- Overcome Barriers to Communication: There are lots of them. It really helps to know what they are so that you can be aware of them in the moment.
- Use simple Active Listening techniques to be more engaged with your staff, boss, and peers. There is a difference between “listening” and just “hearing”. You’ll be a better, more disciplined listener.
- Do a better job of asking for feedback to be certain that you and the person you are talking to are on the same page.

Your Instructor
I am the founder of Leadership Means. I can still vividly remember
the first time I had to counsel an employee due to his
unsatisfactory performance. My heart was definitely pounding.
But I followed the steps I had taught others when I was in the
training department and I had a successful outcome.
I have over 30 years’ experience in developing and facilitating
leadership and personal development courses. I have taught more
than 5,000 managers and supervisors how to increase the level of
commitment and engagement of their employees. I also spent
many years of my corporate life in line management positions. So,
I have had the opportunity to use the same skills I have taught in
class. I’ll tell you about my successes, but just as importantly, I
tell you the mistakes I made so the you can avoid them. I promise
you will learn a lot and have some fun in the process.
